NS&T 17 ready for paint

June 12, 2024 7:13 pm

You can practically smell the primer, it’s sooo fresh!

Here’s a little something I’ve been working on: Niagara St. Catharines & Toronto Railway freight motor 17.

This is based on a now out-of-production set of S scale brass photo-etchings from William Flatt, plus detail castings, scratch-built parts, and a gazillion feet of wire.

I started building this last week and got the primer on it about 10 minutes ago. I’m going to finish it like my other NS&T freight motors, in the all-black scheme with frame stripes, orange windows and doors, and the CNR wafer on the cab sides.

This will be my seventh motor for the NS&T and working on it has inspired me to tackle more projects for this fascinating southern Ontario interurban. Among other things, I’m once again putting pencil to paper to doodle somewhere for the motors to go after they leave the Welland Avenue car barn
