1st Aid

A box of supplies for the inevitable boo-boos.

A couple of decades ago, I received a neat gift that someone found at a flea market: This CNR first aid kit. I know nothing about this, other than it’s a metal box meant to be hung on a wall to store bandages and other first aid goodies. It has a neat graphic on the front – a red cross with a CNR wafer-style logo in the centre.

I really like the logo.

In addition to two hooks, it has a handle on the top so I assume it was meant to be easily pulled off the wall and taken where needed – so I used a pair of picture-hanging hooks to mount it.

I located the box on a wall in my L-shaped workshop, next to the door that leads to a one-time photography dark room built in the inside of the L that I now use as my model-building shop. (And then I made sure my wife knows where the box is, too – in case I need help patching up!)

A hinge along the bottom allows one to get at the supplies. There’s a retainer chain on the lid, so it makes a decent shelf for laying out materials as one is patching up onself.

I removed the tattered and stained (ugh!) remains of a roll of bandages that came with the box and loaded it with a brand new package of Elastoplast bandages. I’ll add a bottle of rubbing alcohol to clean cuts. Maybe a few other first-aid items as I think of them.

After toting this around for many years, it’s great to finally put it to good use!
