GWR 850 sound test

As someone interested in modelling the Great Western Railway, this made my heart go pitter-patter:

Sound on!

I put down a deposit on one of these (in the GWR’s green, black, and red of course) when the designer – Lee Marsh Model Company – announced them in February, 2019. Given the lead times on brass models, it’s no surprise the project got kicked off schedule by the global pandemic.

But it’s now on track again and it’s great to see progress being made. According to Lee Marsh, this production sample now has its DCC gear installed and will head back to the factory so the builder can use it as a guide when installing electronics in the production models. Lee Marsh also reports corrections are underway to the production drawings, so construction can commence.

The company has not announced when it expects finished models to ship to customers – although 2024 certainly feels like a strong possibility. They’re definitely so much closer now than they were in 2019!
