NS&T 17 in service

This has always been a favourite prototype and I’m thrilled with how it’s turned out.

Today I finished some final details and assembled Niagara St. Catharines & Toronto Railway freight motor 17 – and I’m so pleased with how this turned out.

Like many of the previous NS&T freight motors I’ve built, this one started with etches done by William Flatt plus a pile of commercial and scratch-built parts (and a king’s ransom in wire to reproduce all those exposed air system pipes). Despite having done a lot of brass soldering in the past 4-5 years, I’m surprised at how quickly this one came together.

Here’s a short video of it on my workshop test track:

I now have seven NS&T freight motors and that will probably be my fleet – although I would like to build some MoW equipment from this fascinating electric railway.

All seven of the freight motors I’ve built, outside my model of the Welland Avenue car barn in St. Catharines.

NS&T 17 has always been a favourite of mine and I left it until the end on purpose. I’m looking forward to using it to switch industries around my 1:64 version of the Niagara Peninsula.
