Garbage barrel

Adding some interest to the NS&T car barn.

I’m finished with the major construction of the Welland Avenue car barn – the maintenance shop for the Niagara St. Catharines & Toronto Railway – and I’m starting to add details. I’m trying to build scenes to draw the eye and reward the viewer. This area, near the sand house, is one of them.

I’ve added some pallets, built from a really nice laser cut wood kit from Inter-Action Hobbies. I’ve also added a Tichy oil drum for use as a garbage barrel when the shop crews are taking a break. I painted this white then made my own decal, which includes the British/American Oil logo and a matching green stripe to wrap around the bottom half of the drum. I added some dead grass and weeds using basing materials for wargaming figures.

I have more details planned for this scene but it’s already looking much more interesting.
