In a recent post about my sector plate, I noted the rails at one end had pulled out of their spikes during our big 2020 move. This seemed like a good opportunity to test out my Kadee Spiker, which has been acclimatizing to the train room environment since I purchased it almost two years ago.
Ka-chunk! Ka-chunk!
Holy cow: This thing is brilliant! I repaired about four feet of track (the final foot of each line on the sector plate) in about 10 minutes.
Ka-chunk! Ka-chunk!
I also tested the Spiker on some of the laser cut plywood tie strips made by Tim Warris at Fast Tracks, and while Kadee advises against using this tool on plywood it had no problem firing spikes into these thin laminations. That’s going to make building the rest of the Niagara St. Catharines & Toronto Railway a whole lot easier.
I’m glad I ponied up for the Spiker: I wish I’d bought one decades ago.
Ka-chunk!
