Weirdness

“More steam! More steam! What madness is this?” Monsters and helicopters from DUST 1947 – a Weird War 2 tabletop skirmish game – invade the GWR at Bydemill.

My layout space is currently a mess. The whole space – not just the room, but the layouts themselves.

We’re getting a new kitchen. I love to cook and I’m really looking forward to it. But this renovation required my wife and I to pack up the entire kitchen and put it – somewhere else. That somewhere else is – you guessed it – the layout room. I can barely move in the space right now.

But that doesn’t explain what’s happening in the photos.

In addition to my railway modelling hobby, I also enjoy a number of tabletop skirmish games. I’ve painted several hundred figures for these, which live in glass-fronted display cases at one end of my layout room.

The kitchen is directly above these cases, and while I didn’t have to clear the shelves (thank goodness!) I did have to remove some larger models from the tops of the cases so the electricians and plumbers could work through the suspended ceiling.

The easiest place to store these models was on my Edwardian era Great Western Railway layout.

A sci-fi shipyard, featuring craft from Star Wars, The Expanse, Dune, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series.

If all goes well, the weirdness will subside in 2-3 weeks and I’ll be able to get back to modelling and posting updates.
