Having made sufficient progress on my 6″ track study, I decided I could start painting the track on Bydemill – my 7mm Great Western Railway layout. I followed the process I’d developed at the workbench and I’m pleased with the results so far.
Each step required 24 hours to cure, but the steps themselves went quickly. Even staining individual ties with thinned oil paints took far less time than I thought it would.
Next, I must install the platform edging for the station, then ballast the track, and finally work some rust-coloured pigments into the rail webs and chairs. So there’s still a lot to do – but it’s already looking less like a train set and more like a railway.
I’m inspired to keep cracking on.
