For the past couple of months I’ve been building the second phase of the Niagara St. Catharines & Toronto Railway in 1:64.
Yesterday I finished wiring up 16 feet of layout representing Ontario Street in St Catharines. Today I conducted my first tests under power of this new track.
Here, with bell ringing, NS&T freight motor 21 works north up what will eventually be the westernmost lane in the street:
Meantime, all track is in place for the Geneva Street scene and I’ve started to wire the drop feeders into the main power bus. This will take a while – there is a lot of track here, so there are many feeders to hook up. In addition, I have a couple of switch machines to install, and some minor tweaks to make.
However, my first test was free of derailments, electrical shorts, and other gremlins. I’m pretty chuffed that things worked so well and I’m keen to get more of the NS&T in service.
I’ll soon be adding basic terrain around the track seen in this video, to keep any derailed equipment on the layout – and off the floor. As a friend and I like to say, “All the rest is scenery…”
