The Niagara St. Catharines & Toronto Railway was an electrified line and therefore the freight motors should be controlled with a simple control stand. However, nobody offers a DCC-compatible version of such a device, so I’ll give each operator a ProtoThrottle, the nifty diesel control stand from Iowa Scaled Engineering. The brake function is a game-changer when switching cars, which is what this layout is all about.
Having installed fascia around the layout, I’ve been able to deploy a pair of Iowa Scaled Engineer’s throttle holders to keep the ProtoThrottles safe and readily to hand. I mounted these at the end of the car barn scene, as this is where most people will collect a freight motor at the start of a session. I have a few extra holders, which I’ll add around the layout as suitable places identify themselves.
