Steve’s PE express yard

My friend Steve Lee is building a layout inspired by a plan I worked up almost a quarter-century ago, featuring models older than either of us. I’m excited to see where this goes.

Back in 2003, Model Railroad Planning magazine published a simple plan of mine as part of a feature on bookshelf-sized layouts. I based my entry on a Pacific Electric express yard located at the Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal (and you can read more about it here).

My friend and fellow traction enthusiast Steve Lee and I have talked about this layout on and off for a few years now as he considered whether (and how, and why) to build it. This week I was delighted to learn he’s now decloaked, and publicly embarked on the project.

Steve has shared some wonderful context for this project on his website, Further Up Dunes Junction. It breathes life and relevance into what is, admittedly, a simple plan along the lines of the Inglenook (a classic British micro layout).

Here’s a link to his post, Introducing the Pacific Electric Express Yard. Enjoy if you visit!

This is awesome. I’m looking forward to following along.
