It’s nothing new: The rich live differently than the rest of us.
When summer arrives, the weather in London becomes oppressive – even as the nobility’s thoughts turn to more pastoral pastimes. What’s a wealthy family to do, but decamp the the countryside for the season?
The GWR received this request at short notice – the need to move a landau, a pair of horses, the grooms, and household staff. Rather than delay the service – and risk the ire of a very important customer – railway management requisitioned a freshly overhauled Dean Single from Swindon and pressed it into service.

This passenger special featured of a horse box and a carriage transporter – unusual visitors to Bydemill – plus a brake-3rd.

The local railfan must have contacts at the railway because he was most excited to see a Dean Single in Bydemill. Fortunately, he captured a few images for us to enjoy.

I will continue to explore Bydemill through a sepia lens – but I’m “moving house” for a week – an overdue vacation – so I won’t have any updates until later in the month. Happy modelling, everyone!
