I’ve had a couple of people get in touch recently to ask me about the size of Bydemill – my 7mm scale layout, depicting a Great Western Railway branch line terminal in the Edwardian era. While answering the question, it occurred to me that it’s been a while since I’ve shared a photo of the entire layout.
So I snapped the above picture, which shows the two-foot by 24-foot scenicked area. In addition to what’s shown here, there’s a two-track staging area on an eight-foot long removable shelf that attaches to the right side of the layout.
7mm scale models are big, but my experience with Bydemill has proven to me* that a satisfying layout can be built in 2×24 feet without overcrowding. 48 square feet plus aisle space is a lot of real estate for many – especially those living in urban areas or in places with generally smaller houses. But by North American hobby terms, this is a pretty modest footprint.
