GWR Full Brake :: 1

I recently started building a full brake to add to the coaching stock for Bydemill – my Great Western Railway layout in 7mm scale. When finished, I’ll add it to my early morning milk train.

I’m using the excellent kit from Slater’s Plastikard – and yes, I paid for the optional pre-painted sides and ends.

I’ve done a few of the other kits in this series and I’m always impressed by the sophistication of the design. They are multi-media kits, including photo etched brass, injection molded plastic, and castings. They have a working suspension system and a full interior. And so on.

This is all the more remarkable given that they’ve been on the market for many years now. (For me, they’re the UK equivalent of the HO scale crane kit from Gould/Tichy – a legend amongst North American modellers.)

I’ve finished the frame which is now primed. I’ll paint it, then move onto the body.

This is an excellent way to close out 2025 and start the new year.
