GWR 1365 in service

What a difference some weathering makes!

Weathering really helps transform this model.

That’s not news to most of you. But this model – a 1361 Class by Tower Models – really shows off the improvement. A bit of airbrushing with sooty black-grey, a light grey, and some mid-brown knocks down the “Isle of Sodor” vibe and turns this model into a working locomotive. Compare the above to this image from an earlier post:

“Percy was sad: He hadn’t seen Thomas in ages…”

In addition to weathering, I finished this model with a crew – two Modelu figures that I painted up – plus a coal load made from Woodland Scenics coal glued over a piece of soft foam (the kind that comes in brass model boxes).

The coal load sits nicely in the bunker – held by the springiness of the foam. It hides the DCC gear, which I wrote about in that earlier post.

This was a fun project and while I have no intention of drifting away from my Edwardian Period, the green livery with GREAT WESTERN spelled across the saddle tank is eye-catching – and no longer an eyesore!
